ABSTRACT

Mediastinal extragonadal germinal cell tumors (GCTs) are an uncommon entity in Cuba and worldwide. Their exact cause is unknown. They can be benigns or malignants. The malignants are divided in two types, nonseminomatous and seminomas. The mediastinal extragonadal GCTs most be included in the differential diagnosis of any mediastinal tumor of unknown origin. An exact diagnosis is fundamental because of they can be cured with chemotherapy. We present a 32 years old male diagnosed with this entity in our hospital. Chemotherapy treatment was applied followed by surgery. The evolution of the patient was successful.
