ABSTRACT

The purpose of this study was compare the coronal seal ability of three intraorifice barrier materials. There were 100 single root teeth randomly asigned to 3 groups of 30 teeth each and two control groups of 5 teeth. The teeth were sealed with 2mm of Provisit, White ProRoot MTA and Portland cement; one material for each group. After creating a uniform orifice diameter, the teeth were prepared, irrigated and obturated with guttapercha with the cold lateral technique. The Gutta-percha was removed to the experimental depth, experimental materials were randomly placed in the orifice and the roots were submerged in India Ink in a vaccum flask, where low pressure was applied at 1 atmosphere for 30 minutes. The teeth were longitudinally sectioned and microleakage was observed with a stereoscopic microscope 15x. The measuring was done with computer software. There was no statistically difference between the materials (p=.52). Provisit leaked .166.±086 mm; White ProRoot MTA leaked .086± 037mm; Portland cement .227±.354mm. All materials accomplished their role as an intracanal barrier.
