ABSTRACT

This work, inscribed in what is called Anthropology of the alimentation, reflecting on some of the major socio-cultural factors associated with overweight and obesity. To do this, first paragraph, the results from the National Survey of Health and Nutrition, 2006, this emphasizes the increasing incidence of these diseases in different population groups in the past twenty years. It also discusses the need to introduce the cultural component in feeding studies with the aim of understanding the various meanings that have the act of eating, not eating or eating excessively. Alimentations are a cultural fact and as such, recognize that foods are not only carriers of nutrients, but to study the mechanisms of various food cultures is another important aspect to understand overweight and obesity. Thinking about food and think about the meanings that people with obesity, is, understanding the various factors surrounding the act of eating, ecological, historical, socio-cultural, and requires a vision that goes beyond disciplinary boundaries and create a space for integration and convergence to really improve the nutritional status of people with obesity.
