ABSTRACT

Objective. To know the frequency of the maneuvers of neonatal resuscitation in a private institution. Material and methods. Two thousand files of women assisted in a private gineco-obstetric institution, were reviewed. All the women receive prenatal control from the first trimester of the pregnancy. Data about the condition of the neonate at birth and of the frequency of resuscitation maneuvers done and the type of these were obtained. Results. One thousand two hundred and eighty five (64.2%) neonates were delivery by cesarean and 583 (29.2%) by vaginal delivery. The indication of positive pressure with bag and mask was: apnea in 86 (4.3%), respiratory difficult in 35 (1.7%) and bradycardiac in 8 (0.4%). In 1,871 (93.6%) there was enough the basic steps of the resuscitation to begin and to maintain the breathing. Conclusions. An appropriate prenatal control and the continuous monitoring since the work labor start allow to foresee risks to the neonates and advanced maneuvers of resuscitation.
