ABSTRACT

Incidence of renal complications after cardiac surgery, has disminished in spite of predisposing factors such as preexisting renal function damage or prolonged cardiopulmonary bypass. Postoperative renal failure is present in 4 to 7% of the children undergoing cardiopulmonary bypass, requiring dialysis. Preoperative management of the patient with crhonic hemodialysis and new cardiopulmonary bypass strategies are the primary reasons for a decreased morbimortality in this group.
