ABSTRACT

It was carried out a descriptive-transversal study to know the behavior of acute dentoalveolar abscess as a complication of dental caries in the population over 19 years old, of “Párraga” Teaching Dental Clinic, in the period from January 2009 to January 2010. A clinical history was made for each one of them, previous consent, in order to obtain the variables of interest for the research, that were later copied to a data collection form. The diagnosis of this affection was given by the clinical characteristics of it and the patient's antecedents obtained during the questioning. In the performed study it was observed predominance of male sex, specifically the age group of 35-59 that suffered from this disease. Lower molars were the most vulnerable. It was also concluded that the sooner the development of acute dentoalveolar abscess is found, the clinical progress will be more favourable.
