ABSTRACT
Replacing a tooth in the esthetic zone represents a major challenge. Multiple factors are involved, such as the management of soft tissue, the biotype, the gingival contour, the degree of bone resorption, the three-dimensional placement of the implant, etc. All of these factors can influence the overall outcome of a person's rehabilitation. Furthermore, given that we are dealing with esthetics, patient expectations tend to be very high. Therefore, it is very important to master every aspect of the process-whether it be during guided bone regeneration, connective tissue grafting, or ensuring satisfactory prosthetic restoration-in order to succeed at the first attempt. In some cases, we may face situations where results prove unsatisfactory, in which case further treatment will be required in order to restore dentogingival harmony and achieve the desired result.
This paper looks at a case involving a ceramic restoration on a dental implant where the gingival contour was located apically to the adjacent tooth, thus resulting in esthetic disharmony in the area. The problem was solved using a connective tissue graft, customized prosthetic abutment, and a suitable ceramic restoration. The result was a very successful recovery of the lost gingival contour.
