ABSTRACT

A descriptive cross-sectional study was conducted to analyze the hospital indicators measuring the use of the bed resource in the Geriatrics Department of "Ambrosio Grillo Portuondo" Clinical Surgical Teaching Hospital in Santiago de Cuba, from 1989 to 2009. Among the main results the increase in incomes per year, the average stay of 11-18 days and the average rotation of 16 days prevailed, with a mean occupancy rate of 72%. It is concluded that despite the difficulties presented for some years, the indicators were optimal, reason why it is necessary to highlight the work of the multidisciplinary team who treated patients in this service.
