ABSTRACT

To understand the development of Mexican Medicine at the end of the XVIII Century we approached one of its relevant aspects: the changes in surgery teaching in the capital city of New Spain through the personal practice of Antonio Serrano a Spanish surgeon, responsible-with others of the scientific endeavours in the metropolis. We investigated and analyzed the dossier of Antonio Serrano, and also secondary sources regarding scientific renovation in the time of the Bourbons that enhanced the establishment of institutions like the Real Colegio de Cirugía.
