ABSTRACT

In an era of threats from emerging and re-emerging diseases that constitute a potential risk for the occurrence of epidemics and pandemics, public health administration pays special attention to the epidemiological situation. The Provincial Direction of Hygiene and Epidemiology in Santiago de Cuba is responsible for controlling this situation, where the underlying information management in the large volume of data generated is deficient to the detriment of the administrative decisions that could be made. Therefore, a computer system to support decision-making in that institution was developed, where techniques of data storage and on-line analytical processing to manage epidemiological information generated were used, with the relevant development of this, for which the Pentaho Business as development platform and the MySQL as management system of databases were proposed. Among the main characteristics of this computer product are flexibility, analytical capacity, compatibility, free of payment and strength. It also supports the implementation of online transactional and analytical processing techniques, focused on exploitation of large volumes of data in the epidemiological surveillance system for dengue.
