ABSTRACT

Diabetes Mellitus is the most common medical complication of pregnancy. The cornerstone of treatment is diet and exercise, but in the circumstances in which pharmacological management is required, insulin therapy has been typically the first choice. Recently, studies have been conducted primarily with Glyburide and Metformin, to help find other treatment options as safe and effective as insulin, with the advantage of achieving better adherence to treatment. The present review intends to analyze the most recent studies on the use of oral pharmacotherapy for the management of diabetes mellitus during pregnancy.
