ABSTRACT

Introduction: Acetabular labral tears have a 22-25% of frequency in patients with hip or groin pain. Degenerative articular changes are associated with labral tears. Method: We present the experience of 15 patients with acetabular labral tears that underwent hip arthroscopy between 2007 to 2010 and a literature review. Pain localization, intensity, associated symptoms, activities, time and treatments before surgery and related sports were documented. Results: The mean time of attention was 21.5 months. Mean age were 47.6 years old. Preoperative pain intensity was 7. All the patients had anterior hip pain; anterior impingement sign and log roll sign during the assessment. Femoroacetabular impingement and chondral lesions were the associated diagnosis. X rays and Magnetic artroresonance with gadolinium were used for the diagnosis; labral and condral lesions were founded during surgery. 66.6% of the labral lesions were debrided and the rest were sutured with anchors. We found 13 chondral lesions that were related with the labral tear cause. All patients report a range of motion increase and pain control in 4.6 months after the treatment. Conclusion: Labral lesions are the cause of hip pain, early diagnosis and treatment allow a better pain control and better functional results, decreasing the risk of hip arthritis.
