ABSTRACT

Micetoma is a chronic infectious disease caused by aerobic actinomycetes and eumycetes. In Mexico the most common agent is Nocardia brasiliensis, it affects the skin, the underlying tissue and sometimes fascia, bones and organs, the most common localization are the lower extremities, affection of the back implicates a bad prognosis, so aggressive treatment should be implemented. In these cases the use of amikacin and trimethoprim-sulfamethoxazole is effective.
