ABSTRACT

Disability is regarded as an issue of great importance due to the involvement in the different spheres of life of the human being, not only individually, but family and social too. For this reason the objective of this study was to meet the elements of care and family organization around a person with intellectual disability; ranging from the hospitable pilgrimage to focus primarily on the mother-child relationship. The interviews were conducted with a man with intellectual disability and his mother. The results indicate that the link mother and disabled child is extremely narrow due to the efforts of the mother to achieve well-being and full development of his disabled son, while the link between the mother and the child without disabilities ruptures that generated disorders on the members of this relationship. Likewise that the social conception regarding disability is still poor and therefore such a concept generates a great psychological impact on the person with disabilities and their primary caregiver. It is possible to conclude that despite the conditions and circumstances, the link there mother and disabled child is in love, commitment, respect and solidarity, being that in the relationship have been the affective needs of both parties and therefore the relationship not focuses only on the Member with disabilities.
