ABSTRACT

Acute kidney injury is a rare complication in children with nephrotic syndrome. However, when there is increased risk of morbidity occurs, increased hospital days and worse prognoses. Its pathogenesis is probably due to renal ischemia, but so far, has involved other factors such as hypovolemia secondary to hypoalbuminemia, severe interstitial edema and tubular obstruction. Usually accompanied by high blood pressure that requires treatment with antihypertensive drugs and diuretics, hemodialysis should be performed in order to restore kidney function and the prognosis is good in most cases. In this paper we describe the case of a child with nephrotic syndrome who presented acute kidney injury during a relapse of the disease and analyzed pathogenic and pathophysiological factors.
