ABSTRACT

Adenoid cystic carcinoma accounts for approximately 25% of head and neck tumors, located mainly in palate, lips and buccal mucosa. It maintains a slow course but with a potential long term metastasic spread, predominantly vascular and rarely compromises lymph nodes. Clinically it manifest as an indolent mass. The most important tool in diagnosis is physical examination followed with ultrasound and, depending on the characteristics of the tumor, an MRI is required to limit the mass and as a guide during the surgery procedure. The first line of treatment is surgical resection and studies have shown better results with addition of radiotherapy.
