ABSTRACT

The arterial coronary disease is a principal cause of morbimortality in developing countries, where is vital an adequate diagnosis and management because ignore this disease in early stages increases costs. Therefore, this review aims to define the concepts of the coronary disease, diagnosis, risk stratification and management strategies which emphasizes the importance of the optimal medical treatment, without losing the role played by invasive methods of revascularization based on new guidelines with appropriate use criteria for coronary revascularization taking in consideration: clinical presentation (eg, stable angina, acute coronary syndrome), severity of angina, extent of ischemia on noninvasive assessments with the presence or absence of other prognostic factors, and medical therapy and extent of anatomic disease.
