ABSTRACT

Introduction: migraine is the most frequent cause of headache in childhood.
Objective: to characterize clinical epidemiological behavior of migraine headache in childhood.
Material and Method: an epidemiological, longitudinal and prospective study was carried out during 2009. The necessary information was collected through a survey that included general data of identity, location and features of the pain. Percentage mean and chi square test by means of a computerized system was used to complete the statistical evaluation.
Results: the incidence of migraine prevailed in female sex and it increased with the age, familial history of migraine was present in the 80,9% of patients.
Conclusions: hemicranial pain, with pulsating characteristics was more frequent observed in children older than 10 years old, whereas in those under 10 frontal location and non-pulsating features prevailed.
