Antibiotics in seismic proportions and the tsunami of resistance

ABSTRACT

A brief analysis of the origin and development of antimicrobials is carried out highlighting its significant contribution to the reduction of morbidity and mortality from infectious diseases. In this paper, the authors focus attention on the factors that determine the repeated failure in the indications of these drugs and their harmful consequences, and insist on the phenomenon of resistance of microorganisms. It reflects on the causes that affect this milieu and sets goals to be met in order to reduce the social and economic costs of this problem.
