ABSTRACT

A descriptive and cross-sectional study in patients assisted at Refractive Surgery Consulting Room Oftalmological Center of Holguín from January to December 2009 was carried out. The objective of thi study was to characterize the patients stage by means of corneal topography, due to the importance of this diagnosis procedure for determining the surgical treatment giving. The sample comprised 300 patients (600 eyes). The results showed that topographical pattern of the symmetrical regular astigmatism prevailed, followed by the regular one asymmetric. The main topographical indexes of Maloney were in normal range in most of the cases. The corneal topography and the other preoperative studies were similar in most of the cases. A total of 28 patients were identified with suspicion of ecstatic corneal all of them were assissted continued in evolutionary consultations. A total of 11 cases of queratocono were diagnosed with an index of queratocono prognosis (KC) average of 98%, this has allowed an increase in diagnosing the patients.
