ABSTRACT

Pemphigus vegetans, rare variant of pemphigus vulgaris, accounting for 5% of all patients with pemphigus disorders. It is divided into the Neumann and Hallopeau types. The Neumann type is characterized by flaccid blisters, that become eroded and form vegetating lesions or papillomatous proliferations, located primarily on flexures. Pemphigus vegetans-Hallopeau type begins with pustules, it is less severe and it responds well to therapy. We describe a case of pemphigus vegetans-Hallopeau type, a 64 years old female, with a dermatosis on the oral mucous, submamary, inguino-crural, perianal and vulvar areas. It consisted of erosions, vegetant masses, flaccid blisters and pustules. The results of histology and direct immunofluorescence studies confirmed the diagnosis. The patient was started on therapy with 1 mg/kg/d of oral prednisone that resulted in complete clinical remission.
