ABSTRACT
Introduction: Lung transplantation is now a reality for the clinically irreversible and terminal lung disease with no other therapeutic alternative, having an unacceptable quality of life and limited life expectancy. The goal of any surgical training program must now help the inexperienced surgeon to automate basic psychomotor skills before operating on a patient.
Experimental mode: The development of the model is carried out in the Department of Experimental Surgery, Instituto Nacional de Enfermedades Respiratorias «Ismael Cosio Villegas» was held in conjunction with cardiothoracic surgery residents, students of bronchoscopy and technical career in respiratory therapy. For the study used 40 York Landrace breed pigs clinically healthy.
Results: The realization of this model agrees that residents taking an experimental transplant to familiarize them and identify the processes and skills acquired and developed surgical and invasive procedures that must be performed during the clinical phase, in order to avoid errors and bring to conclusion the transplant. Besides indirectly allows the realization of teamwork, surgical planning, coordination and decision-making.
Comment: The model made, unique in its kind in Mexico since no real or virtual simulators for lung transplantation and today the thoracic surgical resident working in the laboratory of experimental surgery as part of their training. And we hope that in the near future be possible to apply the model to clinical practice.
