ABSTRACT

In the daily practice of dentistry, the replacement of dental restorations takes up more than half of thetime dentistsspend treating their patients. This problem has shown no improvement or change since. the second half of the last century.
It has been shown that caries disease can be prevented and controlled and that most diagnoses of secondary caries are not accurate enough to be able to recommend the arbitrary replacement of restorations.
New paradigms in dencistry should include better diagnosis and more precise deteccion of caries in previously restored teeth to allow their longevity without the need for prolonged treatments and further damag being caused to the tooth structure and to the dental pulp.
