ABSTRACT
Dupuytren’s disease is a disorder of unknown cause; it is characterized by pathological proliferation primarily in the longitudinal, and vertical fibers of the palmar and digital fascia. It is familiar and is inherited as autosomal dominant disorder, but with variable penetrance. Recent investigations show that in Dupuytren’s disease are associated the fibroblast growth factor, interleukin-1, the epidermal growth factor, the growth factor alpha, and platelet-derived growth factor. The current treatment is based on fasciotomy and application of substances such as collagenase, which are not final and there is a high recurrence rate. The laser (light amplification of stimulated emission of radiations) at low power (less than 10 Joules/cm2) stimulates the metabolic process and cell proliferation. This is indicated in facilitation of the healing process, reduction of pain, increase of the tensile strength of a scar, decrease of scar tissue, decrease inflammation and consolidation of bone fractures. Method: Treatment was applied with low power laser 1 Joule/cm2 per point, in 5 points on each hand, in the path of the fibrous cords. Conclusion: The treatment of Dupuytren’s disease with low power laser is a therapeutic option that benefits articular functionality, is non-invasive and have no adverse effects.REFERENCES
