ABSTRACT

The ventilator-associated pneumonia causes increased morbidity and mortality in critically ill patients. There are deficiencies in the current definitions and diagnostic criteria, making it difficult to establish a diagnosis. In this paper we analyze these shortcomings and propose possible solutions.
