ABSTRACT
Tuberculosis remains a public health problem in our country and the risk for developing active tuberculosis in patients with chronic kidney disease is 6 to 25 times higher when compared with the general population and increases to 37 times more in kidney transplant recipients. Today, tuberculin test is as screening test valid for tuberculosis in potential kidney transplant recipients, however, it is well known that patients with chronic kidney disease and renal transplant recipients have alterations in cellular immunity, so this test may be less sensitive in this particular population. In this review we will discuss the different screening tools for detecting latent tuberculosis from tuberculin test to the interferon release assays as novel diagnostic tools for tuberculosis screening.
