ABSTRACT
Congenital hypothyroidism is a condition resulting from systemic deficit in the production of thyroid hormones from the uterus. This is an endocrinology emergency, because early diagnosis prevents mental retardation and the occurrence of neurological consequences. Early diagnosis is possible by clinical status and measurement of levels of thyroid stimulating hormone (TSH) in the neonatal screening. We describe the case of a newborn in Medica Sur hospital, which was diagnosed with congenital hypothyroidism.REFERENCES
