ABSTRACT

Brucellosis is an endemic disease with world wide distribution that affects animals and humans. It is frequently acquired trough the ingestion of dairy products or by contact with infected animals. The infectious to the spine (spondylitis) represents only 2 to 4% of all musculoskeletal infections. There are two basic forms in the spinal disease: localized and diffuse. We present the case of a previously healthy 38 years-old woman with spondylitis in the T7-T8 level, paraspinal abscess and extension to the epidural space. Blood cultures revealed the presence of Brucella Abortus. MRI findings at admission and follow-up are shown with a brief review of the literature.
