ABSTRACT

The sexual harassment of professors toward the students of university level, like as it happens in various school stages, produce psychological and emotional consequences that they limit the academic execution and they obstruct the participation of the pupils in the educational programs, which constitutes a discriminating way toward the people that experience the harassment. The continuity of these conducts provokes in the victims negative effects like an impoverishment in the selfappraisal, anxiety, depression, posttraumatic stress disorder, chronic irritability, addiction, suicidal tendencies and eating behavior disorders (Olweus, 1993). However, Mexico is unknown prevalence of sexual harassment behaviors of teachers towards undergraduates, types of harassment and perceived discomfort that occurs in them. The present study aims to determine the prevalence of sexual harassment of teachers on undergraduate students of psychology at the Facultad de Estudios Superiores Iztacala, types of harassment and perceived discomfort that creates in students. We analyze and discuss the results in relation to gender differences, similar studies and their implications. We conclude that it is important to further research that produces results related to other degrees regarding harassment, or sexual harassment of teachers to students, between students and teachers towards them nationwide in Mexico.
