ABSTRACT
Introduction. The obstetric hysterectomy (OH) is a surgical procedure
that is realized at the time of delivery or after him. It is
indicated to solve different complications that put in danger the life
of the patient when increasing the risk of hemorrhage, reason why is
preferred to finish with the fertility of the patient before to risk his life.
Objective. To investigate, describe and analyze the incidence
and prevalence of obstetric hysterectomy in women attending of the
Woman’s Hospital, SSA. México, D.F.
Material and methods.
This is a retrospective, transversal, descriptive and analytical of a
sample of women to who realized obstetric hysterectomy during the
period from March 1st 2009 to February 28th 2010.
Results. A
sample of 41 patients was studied. Age average was 29.22 ± 6.3
years. 92.7% was multiparous. Women with antecedent of caesarean
section 68.2%. Uterine atony was the most frequent indication
of OH with 36.6% (n = 15), followed by placenta accreta in 31.7%
(n = 13), uterine rupture 4.9% (n = 2). Patient without complications
63.4% (n = 26), surgical reintervention 21.95% (n = 9), bladder
injury 7.3% (n = 3), uretheral injury 2.4% (n = 1), postoperative
ileum 2.4% (n = 1), disseminated intravascular coagulation 2.4%
(n = 1).
Conclusions. The main indication for OH is uterine
atony and one third of patients are complicated.
