ABSTRACT

Objective: Knowing the frequency and complications in the late preterm infants in relation to what is observed in the newborn children to term.
Material and methods: We collected information about children late preterm and term infants who were admitted to the Neonatology Service between January and December 2010.
Results: We studied 443 patients, 136 and 307 late preterm newborns of term being a morbidity rate of 89.7% in the infant preterm infants, the children to term presented a morbidity rate of 57.3%. The most frequent complications that were presented in both groups were metabolic and respiratory.
Conclusions: The morbidity reported in our study is similar to that reported in the literature, and no differences were found between children morbid late preterm and term.
