ABSTRACT

Introduction. Meyer’s loop represents the opposite superior visual field, avoiding damage to this bundle is mandatory to preserve this function. The tractography is the only noninvasive method to follow the pathways of the white mater in vivo. Objetive. To describe the visual field defect, through tractography and campimetry on patients whose underwent anterior temporal lobectomy for refractory epilepsy treatment. Material and methods. We made a descriptive, prospective and longitudinal study of 5 patients with refractory temporal lobe epilepsy, subdued to temporal lobectomy. All patients showed contralateral to surgical approach visual defect. Results. Meyer’s loop injury was evident in all cases, reviewed by post-operative tractography. We noticed differences on the amount of visual field defect, what is pointing to anatomical variations on the Meyer’s loop trajectory or in the size and localization of tissue resected.
