ABSTRACT

Introduction. Chronic wounds are characterized by its lack of self-repairing. Material and methods. In the present work, we immuno-detected the location of β-catenin and PCNA proteins in plantar biopsies derived from the epithelization zone of DM2 patients (Wagner scale/grade 1) by immunohistochemistry. Results. Our results suggest, that β-catenin its not located in the cytoplasm or nucleus of epidermal cells from DM2 patients; however, β-catenin is located in the basal and suprabasal stratums; additionally, the suprabasal stratum contains PCNA-positive cells. Conclusion. This report supports the notion that the proliferation/ differentiation patterns are disregulated in the plantar skin of DM2 patients.
