ABSTRACT

Introduction. Dinoprostone is a series E prostaglandine, it produces relaxation on the smooth cervix muscles and stimulates the myometrium contraction. An innovative presentation is a device which produces controlled and continuous liberation in low doses to induce cervical maturation. Objective. To assess the use of the dinoprostone intravaginal device as a strategy to reduce the caesarean section rate in Hospital Juárez in Mexico City. Material and methods. A dinoprostone intravaginal device was placed into 40 patients who did not have the cervical conditions to induce labor in a period of 7 months from January to July 2009. Results. The conclusion is presented in a research work which was developed in Hospital Juárez in Mexico City with the dinoprostone intravaginal device, there were 40 births, 22 of them did following a vaginal delivery and 18 following a caesarean delivery, 56% of them did not have an indication related to the cervical conditions, 44% had as a main indication a lack labor progression. Conlusion. The resulting cervical maturation after the use of the dinoprostone intravaginal device is adequate and, according to the results of this study, it raises the Bishop raiting obtaining a higher number of births following a vaginal delivery than following a caesarean delivery.
