ABSTRACT

A descriptive cross-sectional study was conducted in order to characterize the isolates from urine cultures of patients both admitted to hospital and treated in outpatient department of the Arnaldo Milian Castro Clinical-Surgical Hospital from 2010 to 2011. The results of the cultures made at the Laboratory of Microbiology during this period were reviewed to get the information. This search was conducted in the Register of daily lab work. The bacterial strains isolated from urine cultures of inpatients or outpatients during the reporting period, which underwent a susceptibility test, were the sample that produced the data. There were 4089 isolates in all. The most frequent isolates were consistent with Escherichia coli, Enterobacter and Citrobacter, without distinction of origin. Escherichia coli showed greater resistance to nalidixic acid and ampicillin.
