Test 6-minute walk, standardization.

ABSTRACT

Introduction: The 6-minute walk is the simple test of exercise used a submaximal functional test that reflects and evaluation exercise tolerance. Their standardization makes it a great performance instrument with a high benefit-cost ratio. Their standardization could be the benchmark for the national population. Material and methods: Was applied and measured the C6M to 166 children aged 6 to 12 years of age with normal weight according to BMI. Measures were frequency and central tendency normal distribution tests. Results: We included 166 patients, 33.73% were female and 66.27% male. The average distance traveled by age group was: 6 years, 496 meters; 7 years, 475 m; 8 years, 481 meters; 9 years, 513 meters; 10 years, 547 meters; 11 years, 505 meters; and 12 years, 489 meters. Conclusions: The 6-minute walk is an easy to apply in children; the distance was less than that reported in other populations; however, you need a larger population and make the association of distance traveled by size, for comparison with other studies.
