Dentistry emergencies at Pedro Celestino Aguilera González clinic. Havana, May. 2010

ABSTRACT

Background: the dentistry emergencies are complications at suddenly present causing an immediate damage to the tooth or adjacent structures. Objectives: to describe the characteristics of the patients who came with dentistry emergencies to the Pedro Celestino Aguilera clinic of Playa municipality during the month of May 2010. Methodology: a transversal descriptive observational study was carried out. The studied population was 358 persons who came to dentistry emergencies and the sample was of 330 persons according inclusion criteria. Observation methods and survey were used. Variables: age gender, educational level, occupation, main diagnosis and treatment. Results: the age group from 35 to 59 years old and females were the most frequent as well as a dentary affectation and pulpar processes; the most prescribed treatments were analgesics. The pulpar and periapical processes were the most frequent diagnosed diseases. Conclusions: The patients with emergencies in active working age and females were the most prevalent. Pulpar end periapical processes were the most frequent diagnosed diseases and the less frequent were periodontal emergencies.
