ABSTRACT

Considering the arrival of new rotary nickel-titanium endodontic instruments; that promise significant improvement. We propose an analysis of the efficiency of the Pro-taper system to evaluate the apical transportation and enlargement capacity at 1, 2 and 3 seconds. The present study evaluates the technique with three different time lapses at the apical third; comparing it with the balanced force technique; related to the curvature radius modification and enlargement of the three canal thirds, before and after the instrumentation; the results are taken in two different views; lateral and frontal (three-dimensional). The final analysis shows that Pro-taper system allows the instrumentation of the canal with no significant modification of the curvature; as its shown in the analysis of variance with a range off confidence of 0.025. With respect to the apical enlargement the results show that the remaining time significantly affects the average widening of the canal ;the less was observed with the Pro-taper at 1 second .The behavior of the instrument maintains the same standard in both views; and shows the capacity of an uniform three-dimensional cut in both techniques. The other two thirds (cervical and medium) did not present changes at two and three seconds but showed less enlargement that the control group.
