ABSTRACT

The common bedbug (Cimex lectularius) is a nocturnal bloodsucking insect parasite of humans. Other victims for this bug include rats, mice, pigeons, chickens, bats and some domestic animals. Urticaria is produced by the injected insect saliva at the time of feeding. The bed bugs are established in the houses when they go through boxes, suitcases, furniture, drapes, clothing, dry cleaning and clothes used by people coming from infested areas. In an initial phase, those affected do not associate the presence of bed bug bites but to other causes (usually bites by mosquitoes). It is vital to early detection of this ectoparasite infestation by the degree that even present in the homes of patients and can be transported to other houses.
