ABSTRACT

Onychomycoses are fungal infections mainly caused by dermatophytes group, the most common etiologic agent is Trichophyton rubrum, and less frequently are species of the genus Microsporum. We present the case of a 35 year-old female patient from rural area of Guatemala, with total dystrophic onychomycosis with evolution of five years. The direct examination showed hyphae and arthroconidia and in Sabouraud with antibiotics agar culture was identified Microsporum nanum. Treatment with itraconazole pulsed was established by three months achieving clinical and mycological cure.
