ABSTRACT

Endometriosis is characterized by ectopic endometrial tissue, which can cause dysmenorrhea, dyspareunia, pelvic pain noncyclic, and subfertility. Diagnosis is made by laparoscopy. Most endometrial deposits found in the pelvis, and are dependent on estrogens for their growth. Endometriosis affects 6 to 10% of women of reproductive age, 50 to 60% of women and adolescent girls with pelvic pain, and up to 50% of women with infertility. Treatment should be individualized, including the impact of the disease and the effects of treatment on quality of life. Symptoms of pain can persist despite medical and / or surgical treatment of the disease apparently adequate.
