ABSTRACT

Introduction: The thoracic actinomycosis is non common infection in children. More than 90% of the cases have a wrong hypothetical diagnosis, due similar appearance to tumor. We present the following case in the one which the surgical boarding according to the principles of surgical oncology with difficulty would be avoided. Case: Female of 8-year-old, she was seen with two weeks history of direct traumatism, increase in volume and pain in the left side of the chest. Physical examination showed a rounded mass in left side of the chest. A computed tomography scan showed a tumor with costal destruction. The report of the biopsy was of actinomycosis. A twelve-month course of penicillin and ampicillin effected completed cure. Conclusion: The thoracic actinomycosis in children is non common and the difficult diagnosis. It is suggested that an aspiration biopsy or transoperative biopsy that show infiltrated inflammatory rich in neutrophil, they should be accomplished an intentioned search for this agent. The treatment extended with penicillin continues being effective
