ABSTRACT

Epidemiological studies suggest a strong association between inadequate oral hygiene, the amount of bacterial plaque and calculus and the severity of the destructive periodontal disease. As part of periodontal infection control, the orthodontic tooth movement can have a substantial benefit in periodontal and restorative therapy. Today many adults seek orthodontic therapy to improve aesthetics in their smile. If these patients have gingival defects and bone alterations underlying periodontal infection, the resolution of these areas can be improved during orthodontic therapy. In this report are presented cases where periodontal problems are resolved with orthodontic treatment.
