ABSTRACT

A descriptive observational longitudinal study was carried out to all surgically treated patients by presenting acute abdomen between March 2006 and March 2008 in the "Integral Diagnosis Medical Center Rafael Pérez Ruedas of Pampán", with the purpose of characterizing the behavior of the main surgical conditions. The universe was composed by 51 patients operated on urgency in this center during the specified period. Research models, qualitative and quantitative were used, that allowed the methodological triangulation considered for this study, which included theoretical and empirical methods. Data extraction was done through the revision of the medical histories of patients, pouring data into a form for its collection and the results are shown in tables. It was concluded that Peritoneal Syndrome was the form of more frequent submission of surgical acute abdomen, resulting in acute appendicitis, the most frequent etiology and hernias were the most frequent causes of Oclusive Syndrome. It was detected a slightly high percentage of postoperative complications, however, the average stay was low.
