ABSTRACT

The venous thromboembolic disease in pregnancy constitutes a cause of severe morbidity and mortality and this is why its prevention results in an imperious necessity. The objective of this communication is to debate on the recently discussed matter about the usefulness of the elastic compression stockings, in which the bases without scientific evidences are cited. Both the mechanical methods as heparins are not only useful in the prevention of this disease as isolated procedures, but they also complement each other. It is concluded that these stockings constitute a safe and effective mechanical method in selected pregnant women.
