ABSTRACT

The duration of a signal correlated to the extinction period on the development of stimulus control was studied. Two groups of rats were exposed to different signaling conditions of a non-reinforcement sub-cycle. All subjects were exposed to a T cycle (60 s), divided into an availability of reinforcement sub-cycle (tD) 6 s duration, and a non-reinforcement sub-cycle of (tΔ) 54 s duration. The duration of the signal correlated with tΔ was varied across phases (36 s, 18 s and 0 s). A higher frequency of response in tD was observed. The results are discussed taking into account the temporal separation between the signal correlated to tΔ sub-cycle and the beginning of the next T cycle, also highlights the importance of the availability of reinforcement as a condition to stimulus control development.
