ABSTRACT
The catecolamin liberation of adrenaline, noradrenaline and dopamin, among other substances, happen to be generated under stressful situations or in a state of anxiety, both of them occur during dental treatment. To reduce the anxiety, in this article is described a therapy, still under research, which applies music to stressed patients in order to reduce anxiety. By this new method we tried to make dental treatment a much more pleasant experience. The study was applied in pregnant women that assisted to Perinathology National Institute which is located in Mexico City, at the Dental Service. All the patients who wanted to participate were informed and signed an agreement. The patients were examined during four sessions in which they would have dental treatment. The four sessions were divided in pairs, in two of them music was used, and the other two were without music. During the treatment the palmar temperature was measured with an electronic thermometer PH-78905 A, used as an indicator of blood fluid to provide us a clinical view of the response at streessful situations. We concluded that music applied during dental treatment is an effective method to diminish anxiety and stress.REFERENCES
