ABSTRACT

Introduction: One of the most frequently encountered gynecological diseases in women with chronic pelvic pain and infertility is endometriosis. Its pathophysiology is associated with ectopic endometrium, inflammatory damage and immune dysfunction. The latter represents a complex and fascinating theory. Objective: To perform an article review about the role of the immune aspects in the pathophysiology of endometriosis, after a review of the world literature. Material and methods: It was undertaken a search of information in an electronic database (PubMed) as a source of primary and secondary information. It was collected articles and medical abstracts about endometriosis and immunology. Conclusion: There are clear immunological aspects involved in the pathophysiology of endometriosis. Moreover, this disease is associated with potential inflammatory role for the development of the disease.
