ABSTRACT

This paper is about the possible causes of the present tendency to disvalue the professional relationship with the patient and his/her relatives, as well as the clinical method, highlighted by the author as deficiencies that both represent “Aquiles´ heels” in the management of the practice of the health team in the present. An invitation for reflecting on the origin and development of the relationship doctor – patient is done and the practice of the classical family doctor as an example of successful professional relationship are highlighted as well as the integral influence and the full of meaning clinical thinking. The unfavorable influence of the incorrect inclusion of technique and new social factors that in the last decades have attempted against the feeling of compassion of the professional and interpersonal relationships of the health team members as the intromission in the practice context, of the sensationalist press and of the lawyers seeking for complaints and promoting claims which magnitude implies the necessity of covering through high secures of bad practice, as well as the change of attitude of professionals and clients. These situations threaten with changing the historical doctor – patient relationship in a potential claimant doctor relationship in which the interpersonal principles describe by Laín Entralgo to guarantee its successful development. If the present world tendencies are not overcome, they could produce utopias.
