ABSTRACT

The use of misoprostol is contraindicated in pregnancy because of its potential as an abortifacient and its relationship with malformations such as microcephaly, Möbius syndrome and clubfoot, among other complications. We present two cases of patients with malformations evident at term birth with a history of misoprostol intake by the mother in the first trimester. The use of misoprostol in countries where abortion is illegal increases its misuse with the consequent appearance of newborns with various congenital malformations. It is important to disseminate and understand the teratogenic effects of this drug, as well as the control of its use.
